Welcome to Mother of Rest

Welcome to Mother of Rest. A space where Moms are celebrated, blessed, and encouraged to rest in the Lord.  Being a Mom wonderful, and it’s also extremely exhausting! How are we supposed to “do it all” on little to no sleep, sporadic breaks, and the ongoing absence of deep peace and real rest?

Sure, we can function with a chronic lack of sleep and get a lot done, but at what cost?  Are we present and engaged with our kids?  Are we able to press pause and laugh and enjoy moments with our gifts from God? How’s your physical, mental, and emotional health?  How are we tending to the areas of our lives that are screaming for attention?  How are we resting?

Mom’s, we need some real rest!  Amen?  Not a spa day or yoga class or stress-induced gathering that leaves us feeling MORE exhausted.

In order to sustain this high calling of Motherhood, we must rest.  Not in earthly things, but in the ONE who is able to provide the deep kind of soul rest we all need and crave.

In this fast-paced, noisy, cluttered world, how are we supposed to slow down, shut off our nervous system, and experience that “rest and recover” mode?  How do we tap into the healing, supernatural, life-giving, peace, and rest we lack?  How do we actually experience and embody the kind of Rest that actually sustains us throughout the high call of Motherhood for the long haul?

Jesus tells us how in Matthew 11:28-30 NIV.  He says, 28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus loves us so much! I believe He gave us this passage to help us weary and tired mama, right now, today.  I love how He starts with a simple invitation to, “come”.  Anyone who’s overwhelmed and exhausted, weary and burdened doesn’t need another “5 steps to feel happier” program thrown at them.  We don’t need more information, what we need is an invitation to draw near to Jesus. It’s simple, direct and helpful.

Mama, it was never supposed to be this hard.  Motherhood was never intended to be so isolating, depressing, and exhausting.  God created us to yoke with HIM, rest in Him, and be life-giving Mothers, literally birthing lives with Him.  How cool is that?  It’s obvious why the enemy keeps trying to kill, steal, and destroy our Peace, Rest, and Joy.  He doesn’t want to see any family or mom or child full of life.  Satan is a liar and he will tell you that you should be able to do it all on your own and if you can’t, we’ll you should walk in shame, guilt, and depression.

But Jesus, who is the Truth, The Life, and The Way, tells us the Truth and shows us how to get what we so desperately desire.  Jesus brings us life and life to the fullest.  He promises that if we simply come to Him, He will give us Rest. If we Yoke with Him, our circumstances may not change, but the heavy burden will become easier and lighter and we will find true rest for our souls.

Isn’t that good news?

After twelve years of being a full time stay at home mom and home educator, I have found that this is the True.

True rest is found in Jesus Christ alone.

There aren’t any products, books, rocks, retreats, or spiritual experiences that provide the deep kind of soul rest I desire.  Jesus Christ alone is the source of our rest.  It’s in Him, the Prince of Peace that we find Perfect Peace.  It’s in His presence, His word, and having a personal relationship with Jesus, that I am whole, unconditionally loved, fully free, and find what I need most.

This page is my attempt to share what I’ve found most helpful along the journey of Motherhood. I want to amplify an honest account of the goodness of God!  I pray the Lord would use my stories to encourage, bless, strengthen, and point you to Jesus.

You are so loved mama!  You are doing one of the most important jobs in the world. The time and love you’re investing in your family, for the glory of God, is noticed and highly valuable.  You will never regret spending time loving and serving your family.  Keep coming back to Jesus, day after day and you WILL find Rest for your soul.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ Numbers 6:24-26

Cheering you on!

With love and deep breaths at the kitchen sink,

Kathryn
